Well, it's "official" Garrett Southern Middle School's NeXTGen team (2765) is going to Atlanta again !!! Woo Hoo
The FIRST LEGO League Championship tournament at UMBC Baltimore campus was a BLAST again this year. BOTH Garrett County teams came away with top 1st place trophies.
After a series of tough robot table competitions (which ended with two playoffs between Bloomington's "Radioactive Tater Tots" and Southern Middle's "NeXTGEN" teams) Bloomington was victorious, and took the 1st place robot performance trophy, beating out 71 other teams. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
NeXTGEN received callbacks on all three judging categories (Technical and Research, plus Teamwork at the table) and took the ultimate 1st place prize with the Champion's award. This award combines all aspects of the team's performance at the competition to single out the best "all around" team.
The World Festival event will be held in Atlanta GA on April 17-19.
This will be the second year that NeXTGEN will represent Maryland and Garrett County in Alanta.
Heartfelt thanks go out to All the parents, mentors and businesses that supported all five Garret County FLL teams and encouraged the area's youth to embrace the creativity, technology and teamwork required to do so well in these competitions.
Thanks also to the Board of Education, and avid supporters like Dr. Wendell Teets [Garrett County superintendent of schools] who attended the Baltimore competition.
