Mr. Phil's Underwater Experience camp.

06/23/2008 - 5:30pm

This is a brand new underwater adventure camp for Kids in Garrett County.

The camp will expose kids to the science and technology of underwater robots. We’ll focus on underwater robots called "Remotely Operated Vehicles" (or ROVs). Participants will construct several ROVs from basic materials such as PVC, pool noodles & small hobby motors, and then run fun “missions” in a tank to evaluate and improve their designs.

Many uses of ROV’s will be discussed, and participants will work through the key issues governing the design and construction of ROVs. Underwater principals such as buoyancy, stability and mobility will be investigated though a variety of fun hands-on experiments.

The camp will run for 5 evenings from 5:30pm – 9:00pm. We hope that by starting at 5:30pm, we can encourage parents to attend with their children, thereby extending the learning experience into the home. Each day utilizes a combination of theory, construction and fun experiments or competitions. A family-fun Saturday outing may also be included to enable the participants to run their ROV in a real lake or pond.

Camp fee is $95 per child. $10 discount is available for GEARS Members.

Participant age is 11-15 years.
(Exceptions to this age range can be made based on instructor evaluations)
