A robotics and engineering competition will be hosted at Yough Glades Elementary School this Sunday, October 12, from 1:00 PM through 5:00 PM. Teams who enter the event will be challenged to design and build a robotic cable car to race against time along a course forty feet in length. Robots will be based on the NXT LEGO building system All parts will be provided.
Participation is limited to eight teams. Teams may consist of no more than four people and must include one youth 8 to 14 years of age. Registration will be at Yough Glades School on a first come first served basis starting at 1:00 PM on the day of the competition. Teams are encouraged to register on site by 1:30 PM to allow for sufficient time to build and test their robotic cable cars before the start of the actual timed runs.
All are encouraged to attend, if not to participate, to watch the excitment and cheer on the competitors. Plenty of help will be available for those with all experience levels. Volunteers will ensure that even those with no experience will compete with some measure of success. Event organizers are the Garrett Engineering and Robotics Society (GEARS) along with Garrett County’s high school robotics team.
